Baked Pecans

LouAnn Reynolds
"This recipe has been in my family for close to 50 years! My mom started making it when I was young, as one of our traditional Christmas baking items. It reminds me of my mom and being in the house where I spent most of my time while growing up. Now I pass these treats on to others during the holidays for everyone to enjoy. "
Course Appetizer, Snack
Servings 16 1 ounce servings (approx. 20 pecans)

Ingredients

  • 1 large egg white
  • 1 teaspoon water
  • 1 pound pecan halves
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

For a less “candied” version that makes a perfect snack or addition to salads, adjust ingredients as follows:

  • 1 large egg white
  • 2 teaspoons water
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 pound pecan halves
  • cup sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon Himalayan pink salt
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 300° F.
  • Mix the egg white and water in a bowl. Add the pecans to coat and moisten. In a separate bowl blend sugar, salt, and cinnamon. Pour sugar mixture over pecans and toss to fully coat the pecans.
  • Pour the pecans onto a rimmed, greased sheet pan. Spread pecans out as evenly as possible. Bake for 45–50 minutes. Stir the pecans occasionally to allow them to cook evenly.
